Shepherdstown, WV – Shepherdstown Shares, in collaboration with the Shepherd University Panhellenic Association and the Shepherdstown Community Club, is thrilled to announce our first-ever Senior Citizen evening social event: Social Seniors Prom Night: Seniors in Wonderland.

Date: Sunday, April 27, 2025
Time: 5:00 PM – Evening
Location: War Memorial Building
102 East German Street, Shepherdstown WV 25443

Join Us for an Unforgettable Evening

This enchanting event is designed to celebrate our community's cherished seniors, offering them a chance to relive the magic of prom night in a welcoming and joyful atmosphere. Join us for an evening filled with fun, friendship, and dance!

This event is free for all senior citizens and the elder-at-heart. We encourage participants to dress to impress or simply come as you are! A light picnic buffet dinner will be served at 5:00 PM, followed by music, dancing, and light refreshments throughout the evening.

Born from Community Spirit

This event springs from the success of Shepherdstown Shares' "Social Seniors Leisure Lounge," a weekly gathering for coffee and conversation that started in the summer of 2024 and now meets every Tuesday at the Shepherdstown Public Library.

"We just thought it would be fun to have a big celebration. I haven't been to a prom since... well, you know. I'm just hoping to dance with the man of my dreams!"

— Joyce Rudnick, Leisure Lounge attendee

"I was sort of kidding when I brought up the idea, but the more we talked about it, the more animated everyone became. My lovely wife Rachael Meads taught me through her decades of event planning that organizing WITH people rather than FOR them is the best way to ensure everyone feels included and engaged."

— John Meeker, Lounge organizer and Shares board member

"I never got to go to my prom as a kid. I'm glad I'm getting another chance!"

— Mason Waleski, retired Army vet and longtime area resident

Community Collaboration

Seeking volunteer assistance, Shares reached out to the Greek Life community at Shepherd University. "When I asked the sororities if anyone was interested in volunteering, all the chapters were so enthusiastic, we decided to do it together as the Panhellenic Association," said Rachael Meads, Shepherd University Director of Student Activities and Leadership.

Each prom attendee will receive an "Empowerment Pack" gift bag of goodies selected by the ladies of the Leisure Lounge, funded through a generous grant from Aramark via Shepherd University Dining Services.
